Growing up, I was always very artistic and creative. I would draw and paint very often, and my sister and I would work collaboratively on many art related crafts. My twin sister and I were nearly inseparable, and so this had a large impact on how much time I spent doing arts and crafts as a child, mostly because it was one of the thins we could agree on dong together. In other words, having a partner ultimately helped spark my interest in art. I am most interested in drawing things from nature. This is because I wasn't creative enough to come up with something to draw on my won, so drawing what I could see was my best option. Most of my artwork are images that I found outside, such as flowers, animals, and landscapes. Drawing what I could see helped me learn how to draw depth and texture, and overall had a positive effect on my progression as an artist. My favorite tool to use is charcoal. There are so many methods and skills that I have learned how to do using charcoal. I have been able to create contrasts with the white and black charcoal, I have learned how to blend the charcoal to create depth and shadows, and I have learned how to create hard and soft lines. Using this tool has also had a large impact on my style of art. I took elementary school art for six years, then I took middle school art in eighth grade, and I have taken half a year of Studio Art in my freshman year of high school. I have had two different art teachers who focused on very different things. In elementary school art, the teacher's biggest goal for us was getting the students to be able to recreate the artworks that she had done. This was to help us practice basic art skills, and help us find our style of art. In middle school and high school art classes, we have learned different techniques to create our own artworks, which has helped me truly explore my own style of art. I have also participated in the Rappahannock Regional Teen Art Show, the Celebrating Arts Contest, and and the Fredericksburg Academy Arts Festival, which I received first place in. |
